Packing for a week in Europe doesn’t have to mean overpacking or wearing the same three outfits on repeat. The trick is building around a small capsule of mix-and-match pieces — enough variety to look put-together in photos, without hauling a suitcase full of single-use outfits.
Build Around One Neutral Palette
Pick two neutrals (say, camel and black, or navy and cream) plus one accent color. Every piece you pack should work with at least two others. This is what lets seven days of outfits come from about ten actual garments.
The Core Packing List
- 1 versatile jacket (denim or a lightweight trench depending on season)
- 2 pairs of bottoms — one trouser, one comfortable jean
- 1 midi dress that works day or night
- 3–4 tops that mix casual and slightly dressed-up
- 1 pair of walkable-but-cute flats or sneakers, 1 pair of dressier shoes
- A crossbody bag that fits a phone, wallet, and a light scarf
Daytime Sightseeing Outfit
Jeans, a simple tee, your walking shoes, and the jacket tied at your waist for changing weather. Add a crossbody so your hands stay free for maps, cameras, and gelato.
Museum & Café Outfit
Swap jeans for trousers and the tee for a tucked-in blouse — small changes that make the same jacket and shoes look intentional rather than repeated.
Evening Dinner Outfit
The midi dress earns its suitcase space here. Add the dressier shoes and a light scarf, and you’ve got an evening look built from pieces you already wore that morning.
Travel Day Outfit
Comfort matters most in transit. Stick to your softest bottoms, layer the jacket, and wear your bulkiest shoes to save suitcase space — better on your feet than packed.
A Few Practical Notes
Cobblestones are real — skip anything with a thin heel. Many European churches and cathedrals require covered shoulders, so keep that light scarf handy even in summer. And laundry is easier to find than you’d think, so packing for repeats (not every single day) is usually enough.
Pack less, style more.
A tight, coordinated capsule will always photograph better than a suitcase of one-off outfits.
